The Mimic Pod System was sent to me for review from MimicPods.com. You can Get it here (affiliate). Mimic previously sold only cigalike products, which I reviewed a couple of months ago and actually liked quite a bit. Well, they’ve just broken into the pod scene, so let’s talk about it!

Costs:

  • $28.95 pod battery
  • $49.99 battery + two pods
  • $8.99 per pod

Device Specs:

  • 1100mAh battery
  • USB Chargeable
  • Max 30 watts
  • Colors: Blue, Black, Red

In the box, you get a pod device, a mini USB cable, and an instruction card. That’s it. So you’ll need to make sure you buy a pod if you pick this up.

The Design

The design itself isn’t anything special. I wouldn’t say it’s ugly or anything, but it’s just a little plain. I think the paint looks very nice though. These come in either blue, black, or red and the finish looks great. It’s extremely light too, but it’s a little bulky compared to other pod devices on the market. I wish it was just a little smaller.

Something else I like about the design is the cutout where the pod sits. This is perfectly designed to show the full levels of e-juice in your pod, which is always nice. I hate when I can’t see my juice levels in these pod devices.

On the bottom of the device, you’ll find four LEDs. They light up when you vape and the lights tell you how much charge you have left. When only one light is lit up, it’s time to charge. This charges with the mini USB on the bottom and you can’t vape while it’s charging.

Wattage and Battery

It pushes a decent amount of power, but I would have liked for it to have a little more just so that I could take shorter, faster draws. But I know that some people like longer draws, so it’s just a matter of preference. The power it pushes does seem very tuned to the pods, so it probably prevents burning the coils out and getting dry hits.

The device uses a regulated 3.2-volt battery so you have a consistent vape until the battery dies. You won’t see a reduction in performance as the battery life drains. The Cloud Pods have a 0.35-ohm coil and put out 30 watts, while the Vape Pods have a 0.5-ohm coil and put out 20 watts.

The Mimic Pod device has a 1100mAh battery, which is a decent sized battery for a pod device. It should last the whole day for most people.

The Pods

Each package has a sticker on it that tells you the nicotine strength. When I first opened it, I took the sticker completely off and it made me think that it would be easy to throw that away and then totally forget what nicotine strength I have. I think it would be nice to have it printed on the box instead, but not a big deal anyway, Just thought I’d mention it.

It would have been nice to have the pods labeled with the flavor and Nic strength too.

Specs:

  • Vape Pod – 0.5 ohm coil, 20 watts
  • Cloud Pod – 0.35 ohm coil, 30 watts
  • 6.5ml capacity
  • 16 flavors
  • Nic: 4, 6, 8, 10, 15, 20

So right out of the box, you’ll see that each pod has a rubber plug for both the mouthpiece and the airflow hole. It’s good to keep those rubber seals handy because these pods can leak if they jostled around a lot. I had one pod come out of the packaging with e-juice on it. Not a lot, and this isn’t unexpected. That just happens with pre-filled pods. I’m just mentioning it because I think it’s good that the pods come with those seals.

These are huge 6.5ml pods. I’m a big fan of the capacity of these pods because there’s just a lot of e-juice in each cartridge. They’re going to last you a long time.

Cloud Pods vs Vape Pods

Mimic came up with two versions of pods that they’re calling “Cloud” and “Vape.”

Cloud

  • Designed for more vapor production
  • It has more open airflow
  • Uses salt nicotine in 4, 6 and 8mg

Vape Pod

  • This is designed for mouth-to-lung restricted airflow
  • It has medium vapor production
  • Uses salt nicotine in 10, 15 and 20mg

I’ve used both types of pods and the draw is pretty loose on both. This is a pod system for people who like airy vaping. There is a slightly noticeable difference between the two. The “Vape” high-nic pods are tighter. You can take mouth to lung hits on those, but you’ll need to take multiple short hits in a row to make it work. I think Mimic should make one more version that has a very restricted draw in my opinion.

Nicotine

As for nicotine strength, there is a change in throat hit as you move up in nicotine strengths, which is great. I also notice the difference in how nicotine strengths feel, so the levels seem accurate. But I wish they had a really high nicotine version, like 35 or 50mg.

I know it’s probably tough to stock so many different flavors and nicotine variations, but most salt nice come in 35mg and 50mg which I would assume is because that’s what a lot of people like. I personally like 50mg.

Pod Performance

The pods perform very well. I can chain vape hit after hit and never get a dry hit, so the pods wick very well. But one thing I noticed with chain vaping is that the tip gets a little hot. But I just can’t get a dry hit, so that’s nice.

16 Different Flavors

Alright, let’s talk about Mimic’s huge selection of flavors.

Berry – This is a straight up blueberry and blackberry. It’s really good. I get mostly blueberry, which is what I would prefer.

Berry Mint (Blue and Blackberries with a hint of mint and menthol) – This is very much like their regular berry flavor with a touch of menthol. It’s good but also reminds me of a cough drop so that could be a drawback

Blue Nut (blueberry and hazelnut funnel cake with vanilla cream) – This is one of my favorites. The blueberry and hazelnut have a really nice unique flavor. I don’t get a lot of noticeable funnel cake or vanilla, but there’s some sweetness here, which is probably those flavors.

Buster (peanut, creamy vanilla, rich chocolate) – This is mostly vanilla, but with very subtle hints of peanut butter and chocolate. I would have liked the peanut butter and chocolate to come out a lot more, but it’s still pretty good.

Caffe Mocha (dark coffee, chocolate, and sweet cream) – I don’t really taste the sweet cream or the chocolate, but it does taste like coffee. It tastes like freshly ground coffee smells. It’s more like a black cup of coffee to me.

Dark & Rich (full flavor bold tobacco) – This tobacco flavor is much richer than mimic’s traditional tobacco. It has a strong and woody taste. It also has more of a throat hit than mimic’s other flavors.

Delight (Sweet natural Strawberries and light vanilla cream) – This tastes just like it’s supposed to – strawberry and vanilla cream. It’s kind of reminds me of a strawberry and cream dessert

Menthol – This is just your typical menthol. The menthol isn’t strong, but it comes through. Nothing crazy about it, but good for you menthol fans.

Peppermint Blast (minty sweetness and an intense cooling effect of peppermint candy) – This is just like a peppermint candy.

Pink Hare (strawberry shortcake topped with sweet vanilla whipped cream) – This is one of their sweetest flavors. It tastes just like strawberry shortcake with lots of sweetness. I tasted this one without looking up the profile and I knew immediately what it was supposed to be. It’s pretty good.

Sinful (medium Turkish tobacco enhanced with rich spice notes) – This one has a bit more throat hit than others, which makes sense for a strong tobacco flavor. This really tastes like rich Turkish tobacco. It’s scary how much this one tastes like tobacco.

Smoothie (sweet and creamy blend of strawberries and bananas) – I reviewed this flavor when I did a review of Mimic’s cigalike kit and this was one of my favorites. And the same thing here. This one is really good. It really tastes like a strawberry-banana smoothie.

Swirl (a sweet, thick and creamy strawberry and fruit blend) – This is another nice sweet dessert flavor. It tastes a little floral at first, but you can taste the strawberry and a mix of other fruits.

Traditional tobacco – This one is like a very light cigarette tobacco. It’s not like smoking a cigarette, but like a cigarette would taste if you inhaled it while it was unlit.

Tropical (coconut and banana infused with pineapple and citrus cream) – The coconut is the strongest flavor, followed by light banana and pineapple. It’s hard to get any citrus, but this is certainly a tropical flavor. Light, but good.

Vanilla Bean (vanilla with dark rich tones and a touch of sweet) – This one is very smooth. Even at high Nic, it’s pretty smooth. It’s a good light vanilla bean with a little bit of sweetness.

I’ve vaped all of these and while all of them are pretty good, the flavors are all also very light. I would really like for these flavors to be a little stronger, especially for the lower nicotine versions.

Final Thoughts

That’s it for the Mimic Pod System! The device itself is fairly basic, but it works well. But what really makes this setup worthwhile are the pods. There are so many flavors to pick from and they hold a ton of e-juice.
