Melatonin E-Juice for Better Sleep

My Experience With Melatonin E-Juice

A few years ago, I purchased a melatonin e-juice from a brand named VaporBoost. They’re no longer in business, but there are other similar brands on the market (which you’ll find below).

I used this melatonin e-juice fairly regularly for several months, usually 30 minutes to an hour before going to bed. At that time, I used the e-juice in my own tank at low wattage, but most products these days come in disposable “personal diffusers,” so you don’t have to deal with any of that. These devices are tuned to the best settings, so there’s no hassle – you just open the package and vape.

You’re not going to find nicotine in these products, since nicotine is a stimulant and isn’t helpful for sleep. The ingredients differ between products, but aside from melatonin, some companies add additional ingredients that promote sleep such as L-theanine, and tea extracts, such as chamomile, passionflower, chai, and earl grey.

How Does It Taste?

If you order from a brand that adds tea ingredients, it’s likely that your vape will actually taste like tea. When I tested a melatonin e-juice, it tasted just like earl grey, chai, and passionflower tea. It was very nice. Many brands also add flavoring to their products and you can choose from a variety of flavors, such as grape, peach, and mango.

Another great thing about these vapes is that there is no throat hit. Since there isn’t any nicotine, the vape is very smooth and relaxing on both the inhale and exhale.

How Does It Work?

Below is how VaporBoost described their e-juice.

Sounds good, right?

So what do each of these ingredients actually do?

Melatonin – Melatonin is a hormone that helps to set the brain’s biological clock and brings balance to our circadian rhythms. It’s naturally secreted by the body in darkness. When we are exposed to light, the secretion of melatonin is inhibited. When we stay up late at night or watch TV before bed, we are disrupting this important hormone, but supplementation, in the form of melatonin ejuice in this case, can help restore our bodies to natural levels. Vaping melatonin is a lot more enjoyable than taking a pill!

L-theanine – L-theanine is extracted from tea leaves and is generally used for its stress relief and relaxing effects. L-theanine does not cause drowsiness.

Passionflower – Passionflower is most commonly used today to treat anxiety and insomnia. For insomnia, it works by boosting levels of GABA, which is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter of our central nervous system, basically meaning it reduces brain activity. The benefits of passionflower are short-term, so it helps you get to sleep but not stay asleep.

Earl Grey – The main ingredient of Earl Grey tea is bergamot, which comes from the peel of the bergamot orange. Bergamot is believed to have a refreshing, uplifting, and calming effect.

Does It Really Work?

My results are purely anecdotal, so take them at face value. I used Sweet Dreams “sleep e-juice” off and on to see if my sleep was impacted in any way, and while the results were subtle, I seemed to sleep better when using it regularly. I fell asleep faster, I woke up less frequently, I slept longer, and I woke up feeling more rested.

Based on my own experience and from the experiences of others I’ve read online, I’d say that melatonin-based sleep e-liquid works.

Where To Get Melatonin or Sleep-Inducing E-Juice

  • Cloudy makes a melatonin vape with a blend of melatonin, lavender, chamomile, and L-Theanine
  • Full Body Zen sells a melatonin e-juice
  • Epuffer sells a valerian root e-juice for sleep.
  • HealthVape makes both disposable pens and replaceable pod devices that have melatonin in them. They also have relaxation products with chamomile.
  • Melo has several disposable “personal diffusers” that contain melatonin and other essential oils.
  • Nutrohaler Zzbar is a melatonin disposable that comes in many different flavors

And worth mentioning, if you haven’t tried CBD for sleep yet, consider it. CBD is so common and easy to find that many people have switched to vaping CBD instead of melatonin. It doesn’t work for everyone, though!
